About Catchword

CatchWord is a young company with access to a wealth of expertise (in speech technology and South African languages) through its close association with the Centre for Language and Speech Technology (SU-CLaST) and the Digital Signal Processing Group at the Faculty of Engineering at Stellenbosch University.

Established in 2002 as a spin-off company of the successful African Speech Technology Project sponsored by the Innovation Fund (2000-2003) of the South African Government. It is in the process of being integrated as an affiliate of Innovus (Pty) Ltd which assists in the commercialisation of IP developed at the University of Stellenbosch.

Management

CatchWord's founder members, Johan du Preez and Justus C Roux, have more than two decades of experience each in speech and language technology research and development as academics and entrepeneurs. They have strong ties with industry and regularly participate locally and internationally in fora in the field of Human Language Technologies.
